What is Toastmasers?

Toastmasters is an organization that provides the venue to excercise your speaking skills in order to sharpen and eventually master them. There are many chapters in new York City Alone.

How much are dues?

Brand new members pay $27 (pro-rated, depending on the month that you join) for a six month membership + $20 for initial registration. Renewals are $27 every six months thereafter. This provides you with the monthly magazine, the communication and Leadership (C&L) manual for your first 10 speeches and the chance to attend Baruch Toastmasters meetings. Only paid members may deliver a speech at one of our meetings, although guests may volunteer for one of the many other roles. See Kalayer Winn, our VP of Membership, or any other club officer, for more information.

I am not a Baruch student. Is that a problem?

Nope. In fact, you don’t have to be a student at all. many members are currently employed full-time, and some are from the surrounding neighborhood. Non-Baruch students must let us know in advance so their names can be placed on the building’s security guest list.

Am I told what to speak about?

Never. The C&L manual and every other manual thereafter set forth objectives in order to help sharpen different skills, but what you speak about and how you present it is totally up to you.

But why Baruch toastmaster?

We are easily one of the larger TM’s in new York and offer a large, warm, friendly and diverse group in terms of age, nationality and personalities to speak in front of.

What time do the meetings start and how long do they usually run?

We strive to start the meetings on time at 6:15PM. Since time management is one of the principles we teach at Toastmasters, we do our best to end our meetings exactly two hours later at 8:15PM.
